Our Mission

We set out with a goal of creating a healthier and better tasting alternative to both traditional and Greek yogurt. With a little help from Mom, we are confident that our nutrient smart and delicious Tarte flavor is pretty darn close!

How It All Began

In 2010 while strolling down the grocery aisle, Henry looked at the yogurt section and was unimpressed with the offerings.  Two extremes were on display; the unnatural, artificially flavored and overly sweetened “traditional” variety, or the healthy, but unappealing, chalky and flavorless Greek yogurt.  Tired and bored with these options, Henry wondered where he could find a nutritious, slightly sweet, somewhat tangy, real authentic “good for you” yogurt.  What he really craved wasn’t available in stores, it was the memory of the homemade yogurt from our mom’s kitchen when we were kids– he wanted her Asian Yogurt! Coin Our mom’s deliciously tart recipe originates from Southeast Asian tradition.  Using her recipe, we began making small batches of Asian Yogurt to share with our friends.  Soon we couldn’t make enough Asian Yogurt to satisfy all of our friends’ requests and we recognized we had something special.  After lots of encouragement, we decided to further develop our yogurt at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.


The Style

Introduced by the French during the colonial period of French Indochina, Tarte Asian Yogurt is a French-Vietnamese style that is made by caramelizing milk and sugar before culturing; the step is similar to making “Dulce de Leche.” No other style is made this way and our mild sweetness and light and creamy texture is what makes it uniquely Vietnamese.

Our Creation!

With a combination of the freshest milk from local California dairy farms and delicious fruits selected from the most exotic locations, Tarte has been carefully cultured and developed locally starting with its origin in our home kitchen in Santa Monica, CA and the Dairy Products Technology Center at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. What makes Tarte so unique is the light, subtly sweet taste, yet smooth and creamy texture. Our slow and gentle cooking process caramelizes the natural sugars found in milk which results in an extremely creamy and delicious flavor that’s bound to excite you and your taste buds! We are extremely pleased to be able to use our mom’s secret recipe and yogurt making process to bring a little taste of our kitchen to yours!
